Blog Traffic Dropped? Google may have punished you... and they may forgive you

If you have a website that derives its blog traffic from Google, you know for sure when they punish you and that traffic drops.

Sometimes it happens for no reason.

At least, no reason that you can discern.

Sometimes you've used too much anchor text to rank highly for a term.

Other times, you may not be able to figure out why they've dropped you in the search-engine rankings and just have to wait it out.

In the meantime, keep bloggin' away, start another site, change your focus or do whatever will get you back on Google's good side.

Pay Taxes with a Credit Card - Online or by Phone

I was wondering if you could pay taxes with a credit card so I Googled "pay taxes with a credit card" and found out on the IRS website that yes, Virginia, you can pay taxes with a credit card.

They list all the service providers that generally accept American Express® Card, Discover® Card, MasterCard®, or Visa® card as noted.

And that IRS website tells you not only how to pay taxes with a credit card online, but also by phone.

I like to break even on my taxes, because they say if you're getting a hefty refund, you're loaning the IRS too much money each year that could be better used to pay off high interest debt and such.

But just in case I don't break even and end up owing, it's nice to know I could pay by credit card online or by phone if I want to.

Making Money Online From Affiliate Marketing

The internet has opened up a whole new way for people to make money.

And while it's definitely not the get-rich-quick scheme that some claim it is, affiliate marketing is a viable option in making good money online.

Here's a definition of affiliate marketing, but in a nutshell, I've found affiliate marketing to work best like this:

1 - Find a hot new product that's on Amazon (my favorite affiliate marketing program) and set up a website around it -- like the set of 90 DVD movies from United Artists' collection featured on Oprah's 2007 "Favorite Things" Show.

2 - Link to it as much as you can to get it listed in Google -- or indexed, as they say.

3 - Practice search-engine optimization to get as many people searching for that product as possible to your website about that product. (I find that naming the URL with at least "Buy[HotNewProduct]Online.com" in the domain name helps you get those customers that are ready to buy.)

4 - Then, based on Amazon's performance scale, you get a cut of the money paid by customers -- it's your tip for bringing them those paying customers.

For example -- and I find it's worth it to set up a website around a hot new and expensive product to make it worth your while -- say you start pitching a sought-after product that costs $1,000.00 each. If you're on the 7% scale of the performance pay, you'll get 70 bucks for every paying customer that buys one thru your direct link.

Sell 100 of said product units in one year, and that website has made you $7,000 for the year -- and only cost you around 10 bucks for the domain name, maybe $120 in hosting fees and your blood sweat and tears in setting it up.

Of course, not all products are that hot -- but some others will surprise you in how well they sell. Get a good 10 or 20 or more websites churning out the dough every year, and you're on your way to becoming a well-paid affiliate marketer!

Elderly Wii Players - Older people are buying and playing Nintendo Wii...

This is the cutest story about elderly folks playing Nintendo Wii, a video game that forces you to get up and be active as you pretend to hit tennis balls, play a round of golf, bowl a turkey, etc.

So if you're thinking of buying grandma or grandpa another sweater this year, you might want to think again and order a Wii console online while they're in stock.

Make More Money Online by Starting a Niche Website

Instead of setting up a website that contains everything but the kitchen sink (those kind are great, though, for freedom of posting whatever you want) -- consider setting up a website devoted to a narrow niche.

I recently set up a website all about where to buy Nintendo Wii console and accessories online, partly to take advantage of the huge interest in Wii, which is outselling many other game consoles.

My dad should love the yoga pose (he inspired me to try yoga) found in the Wii Fit game promotion, with a release date and available to buy in the US in 2008.

My other reasons for setting up the site were that our family plays our Wii game pretty often and I'm getting in-depth knowledge of the Wii.

So take whatever you own or love to do -- especially if it's an emerging market, product or service -- and set up a website around it.

Then pitch the products via Amazon, load it up with Google Adsense, get good links from other websites to yours, verify the site thru Google Webmaster Tools and upload a sitemap, visit Digg.com and submit your URL, write up good SEO'd posts and wait for the dough to roll in.

Post a lot and have fun!

LegalZoom .com Reviews? Complaints? Referral Codes? I only see good stuff about this web site..

Someone I know recently plunked down 500 bucks to have LegalZoom.com prepare a trust for him.

So of course I Googled everything I could about Legal Zoom reviews, Legal Zoom complaints (thankfully, I found none of those) and Legal Zoom referral codes.

Unfortunately, I haven't yet found any Legal Zoom referral codes or coupon discounts to make that fee less biting, but I'm more grateful that I've found no negative stuff about the site founded by Robert Shapiro.

I think LegalZoom.com is a great idea.

Heck, depending on the experience the guy I know has with it, I might use it for my will or something...

Update: Boy it's been years since I wrote this post about Legal Zoom, and despite all the complaints logged below, they seem to be going strong.(I've learned that people may tend not to leave their positive comments online maybe when they see a barrage of negative comments online.)

Admittedly, my dad only used them to prepare his will, and we haven't had need of it yet, bless God, so not really sure how effective it is. (Update: My dad "went to glory" -- as he called going to heaven with Jesus -- on 9/29/2011, and we had no issues with his will. After all, it was just my sister and I and we didn't really need it.)

I used "The Company Corporation" to form my writing LLC business, and I'm very satisfied with them thus far. However, I see people use Legal Zoom to form their LLCs, incorporate their businesses, even change their names and get divorces and more. I think the wide advertising campaign helps, and for the most part, people just don't want to research legal stuff and lots of paperwork themselves, and prefer to pay others to do so. (That's why I paid my CPA $350 today to file my LLC and personal taxes!)

But keep your Legal Zoom feedback coming! Thanks!

Here's feedback that Legal Zoom sent me:

Tax Daddy is my World War II Hero...

by Paula Neal Mooney

I watched on CBS Sunday Morning News this video report about the new World War II Memorial in DC, and the man who started HonorAir.com to fly vets -- 3 million of whom are still alive -- to the memorial to honor and thank them for their service in the war.

So of course I'm already crying, like the World War II vet they interviewed who choked up all these years later when he said he saw that Nazi swastika flag go down after he was released from his POW camp.

But the reason I just crinkled my face up is because the man in this picture to the left, labeled with "Somewhere in the Philippines" on the back is my very own World War II hero -- Ambrose Landis Dobbins, Jr.

I wish I could take my daddy to that World War II memorial -- I wish we could talk more about what he saw and did. I saved spartan emails he's sent about hearing bombs in the distance.

About the spas in Hakone, Japan.

So many amazing memories he must have, but like many men and World War II vets, he's stoic and tight-lipped and private about many things...

Tax Daddy was a photographer!

Here's another picture I have of him, stretching his skinny frame to check out a fresh roll of film.

That one is labeled "my darkroom."

I didn't even know "Tax Daddy" was really into photography. And how could he have guessed that all these decades later his daughter -- who was nowhere near born yet when he was a 20-something-year-old so far away from home -- would scan them into something and upload them on something called his "blog."

At least this newfangled technology -- which as an 86-year-old my dad is totally up on, more than me sometimes -- let's me take him to the World War II memorial virtually.

And I can tell my World War II hero all about this PBS Ken Burns movie called The War airing this Sunday, September 23, 2007, thru this forum.

And finally, after all these years, I can tell him thank you for everything you've done for me.

Daddy -- as your favorite comedian Bob Hope would sing, "Thanks for the memories..." both those spoken, and those unsaid...

How Blogging Can Help in an Emergency

by Paula Neal Mooney

Think blogging is just the foolish ramblings and musings of self-involved and bored folks?

Well, you may be partially right, but it's so much more -- as I found out day before yesterday when I used it as one of the means to contact my father.

And watching i-CAUGHT, a new ABC show about viral YouTube videos and such, I learned that people also are using their online activities to help solve vicious crimes.

So blogging may help us in ways that we never expected it to when we first began.

Flip Your House -- Making $110,000 Profit Off a Home Sale

by Paula Neal Mooney

I was inspired recently watching an episode of Flip This House.

A brotha spent about $865,000 to buy a house, spent $60,000 to fix it up, then got it appraised for $1.03 million.

That's a $110,000 or higher profit for him for about two months of work, if it sells for $1.03 million or above.

So say your house is in need of kitchen work, bathroom work, new carpeting, etc...

Say you've just come into a good sum of money...

It would behoove you to invest a good portion of that money in your home...

If the house next door sold for $280,000 -- fix your home up so that it will sell for at least $300,000...

And even if you have an outstanding $100,000 mortgage on your home, you'd still clear around $200,000...

That's a lot more of an inheritance to leave for your children and grandchildren that if you'd left that $100,000 earning 4% sitting in a money market fund, for example.

From now till July 31, 2007, website writers can get an extra 3 bucks when they refer new or existing customers to Amazon's grocery products.

I don't think I've ever used Amazon's grocery delivery services before, but I would in certain instances, like if I didn't like going out the house to go grocery shopping a lot.

Or if I had products to buy that I didn't want everyone to see.

Check out Amazon Grocery Bestsellers and add a link like that or banner to your blog.

Or, check out all the great products they have and order some for yourself while you're busy blogging all day!
